How to Live a Debt Free Life

Living a debt free life can save you a lot of stress and worry. You will have to delay instant gratification now but it will help you get the life that you've always wanted later on. There are several different ways to help you live a debt free life.

Watch every penny and save up to invest in current stock prices or learn about the stock market for beginners. You might not even know where your money is going. Little things like movie tickets every Friday night or eating out several times a week (even if it's for a lunch at work) can really add up. Take out your bank statement for the last few months and make a detailed list of exactly what you have spent. You can then set a budget based on housing, transportation, food, debt repayments and misc income. This will help you think before you spend.

Make sacrifices. You may have to stop scrapbooking or eating in a certain way to live a debt free life. This doesn't mean that your new life has to be full of drudgery and depression. Instead you will literally be free from debt and able to make your own decisions later on about what you spend your money on. It may be difficult at first but after awhile it's a habit that your friends and family will want to learn from.

Delay gratification. You can make it a rule in your family that you only spend what you have. This might mean that you save up for the holidays all year long or even try to buy a new car free and clear. By anticipating your future needs and saving for them you avoid high interest rates and the burden of debt.

Find joy in things other than money. The key to living a debt free life is to be happy even if you don't have everything you want. This will cut down on your spending because you won't feel the need to keep up with other people while borrowing money that you really can't afford to spend. You can institute a date night or just try putting together new combinations of outfits in your closet instead of shopping. It may take several years to get all the way out of debt so you need to find your inner joy so you can stick with it.

Living debt free may seem like an impossibility but it's obtainable for almost everyone. You constantly have to be on the lookout for how to save money and make sure that you don't fall back into the debt trap.
